About Sharron Rose

Sharron Rose, MA.Ed, author of The Path of the Priestess, A Guidebook for Awakening the Divine Feminine (Inner Traditions) and the Awakening the Feminine video series (Sacred Mysteries Productions), is an internationally acclaimed teacher, writer and performer in World Mythology, Religion and Sacred Dance. For the past twenty-five years she has worked in the fields of education and the esoteric arts to investigate, integrate and impart the knowledge and wisdom of ancient and traditional cultures throughout the world. This work has taken her to India, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, South America and New Zealand. It has been disseminated through master classes lectures, workshops, live performance and video.

After many years in ballet and then modern dance studying with dance luminaries such as Merce Cunningham, Twyla Tharp and Louis Falco, she went on to create numerous dance/theatre productions in New York and Boston. In 1978, she began training in Indian Classical dance and embarked upon her pursuit of the essential relationship between art and spirit. From 1983-1988, with the assistance of a professional development grant from the American Institute of Indian Studies (1983-84), and a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship (1986-88), she began extensive research into the art, culture and spiritual traditions of North India. During this time she was accepted as the first American disciple of India’s legendary Kathak dancer and Tantric adept, Sitara Devi and was initiated into a sacred tradition of the Tantric Arts that had been handed down from teacher to student for thousands of years – the transformative path of the Temple dancer/priestess/healer– the path of the Divine Feminine.

Since that time of introduction and initiation she has consistently sought out other remnants of these teachings in cultures throughout the world. From Chogyal Namkhai Norbu, Tibetan master of Tantra and Dzogchen, she learned the transformational practices created to purify the mind and body and awaken one to their true Divinity. With Dr. Robert Masters she investigated trance techniques, his ‘Psychophysical Method of Neuro-sensory Re-education’ the realm of healing and the Egyptian Mysteries. With her husband, hermetic scholar Jay Weidner, she has explored the mysteries of alchemy, the hidden history of humanity, and the roots of the spiritual traditions of the West including Gnostic Christianity and the Hebrew Kabbalah. In addition, she trained in the healing arts of Craniosacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation with the Upledger Institute.

These years of research and experience in the sacred science of the ancients provided her with a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the role of women and the Goddess in ancient civilizations; the sacred dances, yogic, tantric and alchemical practices and rituals, myths and symbols of these civilizations as well as a body of sacred knowledge known as Woman's Mysteries. Due to her knowledge and expertise in these ancient arts, she has served as consultant to the National Endowment for the Arts, created multicultural arts-in-education programs for Young Audiences and Arts Horizons in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Virginia, lectured and performed in numerous universities such as Harvard, MIT, and Columbia, as well as for cultural organizations and museums throughout the world.

For the past seven years she has been presenting a series of teachings entitled, Awakening the Feminine designed to reveal the ancient knowledge of Women’s Mysteries and to assist in the re-emergence of the innate power, wisdom, and sensuality of womankind. In addition to her continued research and teaching of the sacred movement, meditation and healing practices of the Indo-Tibetan tradition, she has been reconstructing and teaching the temple dance forms and rites of ancient Egypt.

Ms. Rose is the president of Sacred Mysteries Productions a video company dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of the wisdom teachings of ancient traditions from around the world. She is the creator and producer of the Awakening the Feminine Video Series, and has produced the videos Healing Sounds featuring Jonathan Goldman, ArtMind, The Healing Power of Sacred Art, featuring Alex Grey, and Healing the Luminous Body, The Way of the Shaman, featuring Alberto Villoldo, Ph,D. Her newest video entitled Isis and the Black Madonna; The Alchemical Goddesses will be released in the spring of 2003.
